Modesty

The other day my son came home from school, noncholantly pulled this acrylic picture frame from his bag and made for his bedroom. "What's that?" I enquired? "Oh I made it", he said casually, continuing on his way. Now I don't know about you, but when I was his age, my school made items were proudly given to parents as trophies and displayed as such in the most prominent places! Some of my things are still on display 30 years later. But not my Jimmy. Perhaps he sees 'making things' or being creative as a normal pursuit in this house, but I was very impressed indeed, and now instead of the mantlepeice/windowsill/dressing table, I have a blog to display his work!

Fabulous! Isn't it called 'Res Mat' - where they do wonderful things with all sorts of materials? Wish we did that when I was at school! x

Yay for youth crafting! I am impressed with his frame - all we managed at school today was tissue paper flowers!

They certainly seem to make much more interesting and better things than when I was at school.

Fab frame what a talented lad you have, what does the writing mean?

we made things from plastic when we were at school, we made an egg cup!!

In metal work we made trowels, and in wood work we made pictures!!

I wish I could go back to school, I even liked the food!

Great frame! It's reminded me of all the fantastic things we used to do at school in CDT lessons (probably called soemthing completely different now!). They're probably all lurking somewhere around my parents's house still!

As a Design and Technology teacher I think that frame is excellent!! What Year is your son in? I have students who react in the same way but if you suggest NOT taking it home they are horrified, so I think he is secretly very pleased about it.
It has made me smile reading all of the other comments. School IS fun and much much better than it used to be, pity our clients do not always feel the same. I suppose it will always be the way. What is he making next?
