Sew Retro

This is the skirt I have 'designed' in Pattern Cutting class. I want to make it from Khaki coloured stretch drill. I've changed it a bit as I'm going to put two splits in the back instead of a little fish tail. And I might add some straps and buttons on the waist area. I also have plans to make one in black shiny satin with an artificial 'belt' at the front which will be fastened by one of my vintage diamante belt buckles.

I found some Khaki coloured stretch drill online at MacCulloch and Wallace, but they want £7.50+VAT for postage! That's more than it costs per metre, and more than it would cost to import it from America (and I did tell them so by email)! Failing a trip to London to collect some in person, I might have to stick to a stretch denim instead. Unless anybody out there knows where I can get some Khaki coloured stretch drill without the ridiculous postage price? Because ofcourse, now that it seems to be so difficult to get hold of, I want it all the more!

I love your skirt design. Don't now where you'd find stretch drill, not in plain colours anyway. I think MacCulloch charge so much on postage because they don't want that type of business. It ought to be illegal really to charge that much. It doesn't cost that much to post to the US as you say.

Bite the bullet and buy it. £7.50 is extortionate, but as long as you get your wear out of the skirt, it'll be worth it. Have I talked you into it yet?

This is going to be absolutely perfect! I can't wait to see the finished product :)

That looks like such fun! Drawing it up, drafting it, making it and wearing it. Fantastic!

(no help with the issue of the khaki stetch drill though...)

Your skirt pattern looks great but I can't help with the fabric.
