Something Old, Something New..

September is a very busy month in The House of Marmalade. We have more birthdays and anniversaries than you can shake a needle at, and that's not including the back to school frenzy.

What to do with this pile of old jeans??

Make a new pencil case for Jimmy...

Some bunting for a little boy...

And as a result of Miss L's dress appearing on various Facebook albums, I have another dress commission!

It's for my friend, Mrs P, and hopefully, when it's finished, it will look a little like this ...

But as it's an outfit for a wedding (again!), it won't be made from old jeans!

I have a pair of jeans which have patches upon patches, but are really now on death's door - I never thought of a pencil case1

Love the bunting and pencil case. Can't wait to see the dress. I am a September baby - The glut of September birthdays are often the result of good Christmas party's the previous Christmas!!!

Ah, it's nice to see The Jam patch there in a form :)

I just popped over to answer your question about the croissants! No I wouldn't class them as difficult, particularly if you have experience with making bread already. They're more time-consuming than anything. And maybe a bit fiddly. Even rolling the butter out wasn't that hard in the end. I was really worried about how hard they'd be and then I discovered they weren't once I was in to it. The next time I do it they'll be even easier and hopefully better!

Hey I used to have that MOD badge on my parka when I was at school about 100 years ago. You can't beat old jeans for inspiration, I'm always chopping them up!!
Well done on your new commission, the first of many I'm sure.

I keep saving up old pairs of jeans with the idea of doing something useful - I can't quite bring myself to throw away the unpatched bits!

You're so clever with that pencil case!

Ps - I've got a friend who is a big corset fan so I'm going to point her in the direction of your shop.

That dress would look pretty good in denim and lace though...

Years ago I made a 'scruffy' quilt from old jeans and dyed calico. It was great as it didnt need precise measurements and scruffy suits me! It took hours, but it was the first present I made for someone and I was so proud of it. It was so heavy and warm. Here is someone's explaination, better than I can do - I didnt make my quilt from this, but the picture looks the same as my end result.

I like the bunting idea or it would have been a pretty big pencil case;-)
