Good Things

Some wonderful things have been happening in the Sewing Community lately ... one of them is The Sewing Directory ... have you been there??  It was only started in March by it's founder Fiona Pullen, but already is becoming one of the best resources on the net bringing all kinds of UK sewing contacts together in one place for ease of reference and networking!  Fiona has been working closely with lots of us sewists over the last few months,  and also has a monthly column in Sew Magazine .. Currently, she is compiling an A-Z of Sewing on her blog - with lots of contributors, and guess who did "C for Corset"?  :).  She's on Facebook too!

Lots and lots of new sewing businesses have been opening up on the Web and on the high street, and Oxford is no exception.  We lost our only fabric shop about a year (or so?) ago, and since then, hardly a day has gone by when I didn't wish there was such a shop to browse!  But now my wish has come true!!

Darn it and Stitch is the sort of shop we all dream about owning ... Very spookily, it used to be run - years ago - by a friend of mine, who had it as a Celtic gift shop.  I used to spend hours in there with her!  And it looks like i'll be spending a good few hours in the new shop as I have met the lovely Jo, who owns it, and - talking of "C for Corset", guess what we've been talking about?  Watch this space ...

There is a lovely selection of vintage trims and buttons ...

Some hand made bits and bobs, made from vintage things, and a whole range of other stuff that will have you foraging for hours in there!!  You can see lots of pics of the shop on the Darn it and Stitch Facebook page ... Just imagine a sound track by Imelda May, and you could be there in person!

You can join me on Facebook too, for all the latest on my corsetry exploits ....

In the meantime, Mr M has a rather important birthday to celebrate, and i'll be back from that next week with news of my Thespian Commission!!

Well darn it!! Where is darn it and stitch? I mean which street... I have just GOT to go!! It was almost impossible to believe that Oxford did not have a single material shop... I should imagine she will do loads of business... :-) and will she sell your kits too?

In t'olden days, it was just about getting a website. Now, firms are nothing until they are on Facebook as well as on their own site!

We recently celebrated the opening of a new fabric shop in Cambridge too; and a new bead shop. Things are looking up!
