He is Heavy, He's my Brother

I have been consternating over a new machine for ages, and I have wanted an Industrial for even longer ... I don't know, there's just something about them that I fancied - perhaps it's the fact that they are a whole tablesworth of machine, or the fact that they are so fast, or that they look so "professional" in a Coronation Street type of way .. but anyway ...

As I said, I had wanted one for ages, and one day when casually browsing through Lucy's blog I spied one in the background, and asked her about it .. and she said that hers was a Brother named "Brian"and that he was the best thing that had happened to her (sewingly speaking) ..

... which was quite serendipitous as a few months previously,  I'd had an engineer round to service my little Janome, who'd said that the Brother industrials were quite simply THE machine to have, especially if they were Japanese ...

He mentioned something about horsepower ...  I didn't realise that this actually meant "noisy" and very very VERY FAST ..  It's like a car .. imagine mini/ferrarri when thinking domestic/industrial ...

e-Bay became my New Best Friend, and before too long I had "accidentally" bid, and then two weeks later ...

The threading is a little different,  but you can wind your bobbin while you sew, which is nice ...

It took a while to get used to my new baby, but now I LOVE LOVE LOVE my Monstor Machine ... He (for he is definitely a testosterone filled "he"), needs a name.

Any ideas?

There will be a small prize for the best suggestion :)

What a fabulous looking machine...I've always wondered what it would be like to sew on a beast like that! I hope you will share your progress with it and give us a full review ;o)

As for a name...how about Baldric or something as noble and powerful?

He looks like a Bruno to me.

He looks like a billy! i love the coronation street comment, so he could have william as a more formal "show" name after the longest serving actor in it!

Great machine! Have lots of fun with it.
Didn't even have to think about a name. This whole morning, the song "The Worker" from Fischer-Z is playing in my head. It could be an appropriate name, but there are nicer names surely.

How about 'brother' in japanese? There are actually four options for brother in japanese:

1) older brother (your family): ani
2) older brother (a different family): oniisan
3) younger brother (your family): otouto
4) younger brother (another family): otoutosan

Your powerful machine seems like it'd be an older brother. And it's definitely part of your family! But I think my favorite is oniisan, even though that'd be a different family...

I've sewn with these before ... be careful because they can sew your fingers together at speed until you get used to them. It should be the 'Grande Prix' because of the speed it can drill dainty holes through my finger nail. ... think about it!!!!

How about Butch? x

Flash Gordon?

FLASH!

Do be careful, it's my biggest sewing fear that the machine will sew my fingers up with the garment!

I like Kitten's suggestion of a Japanese name to reflect the machines "heritage" what about Kenta?

It means healthy/strong and big/stout. You could shorten it to Ken, and then it has a bit of a Ken and Barbie connotation. And we all know Ken and Barbie are a sheer perfection, both in their genetic construction (good karma for perfect sewing construction) plus their appearance (her waist is made for corsetry) match made in heaven me thinks?

Penfold! I think is the correct name for such a machine after all his best friend was a super hero (in a mouse kind of way). I have a little machine ( a photo will appear on my blog later) that you will just love. very little and very old.

Hello! Isn't he handsome. Could be my Brian's twin! so I would have to name him Bernard. That name always makes me laugh when I think of Nursie from Blackadder.
Bernie would work too or Bertie!!

Wow! Gorgeous - I love it. I'm thinking Hugo. Or possibly Alexander (after Alexander the Great - such a proper man - I fall in love with his maleness every time I read about him). x
