Corset progress

I've been ensconsed with a wedding corset.  Got to finish it by the end of the week as I'm going off to Italy next week for a few days.

The bride to be has given me gold dupion to work with, and I couldn't help being a bit 'traditional' by using a blue lining ..

The fabric cuttings looked so gorgeous all piled together on the 'cutting room floor' that I couldn't resist taking a quick pic.

There are just over 40 pieces to sew together - the outer layer of dupion silk, the strength layer which is 100% cotton coutil, and the lining.  There are 6 panels on each side, and two straps.  The dupion silk is flatlined to the coutil and treated as one layer for assembly.

My favourite part is watching the shape happen as I sew, and I feel quite narcissistic staring at my lovely top stitching! In my younger day, though I always had ambition to sew,  I never ever imagined that I would be able to make a lovely straight line like this, and so they do give me much pleasure!

The fabric is absolutely gorgeous in real life, I can't get a photo to do it justice.  But it's coming together rather well.  Hopefully I'll be able to post a pic of the finished item before I go off to Italy next week.

I'm in awe of your top stitching! I don't seem to be able to sew a straight line to save my life!

How do you go about finishing off the bottom edge. This garment is likely to be worn again too, by the bride. If she will aloow it post a picture of the final outfit please. I loved orginising my own wedding it was fun if a bit stressful at times. Lovely stitching!!
